Are people more likely to vote for right wing populists if they feel their personal financial situation is poor, or they are critical of income disparity? Agenda Austria analysed two comprehensive data sets to determine whether the hypothesis stands up to scrutiny.
The outcome: in Austria, as in the 14 other nations covered by the analysis, personal attitudes towards the subject of immigration and the level of – or lack of – trust in parliament and government determine the attractiveness of right-wing populism.
